INDIANAPOLIS - Recently graduated Truman State University women's swimmer, Jamie Fitzpatrick, has been awarded a scholarship by the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee. Fitzpatrick plans to use it at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis when she begins the Doctor of Physical Therapy program in the fall.

"I'm so thankful for and excited about this award," said Fitzpatrick. "I'm so happy that all the work I put in at Truman is paying forward into my next chapter at WashU! I want to give a special thank you to Jerod (Simek) and all of my professors who have helped along the way!"

The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics. The one-time non-renewable scholarships are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring). Each sports season, there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 for women for use in an accredited graduate program.

"I am extremely proud of Jamie's accomplishments in and out of the pool," said her head coach, Jerod Simek. "She has been a huge leader by example for our team in the classroom and it is nice to see her being recognized with such a prestigious honor! She will do great in physical therapy school at WashU!"

When it comes to competition, Fitzpatrick competed in the NCAA Championships for three of her four seasons as a Bulldog. The St. Louis native made the trip for relays as a junior, but competed in both individual events and relays as a sophomore and senior.
