ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Opening its season against Lindenwood for the third-consecutive time, the Truman State University men's soccer team tied with the Lions 1-1 after 110 minutes of action on Friday night.
The Purple and White's lone goal came in the 31st minute off the head of
Matt Yankowitz and gave them a 1-0 lead.
Jake Koenig started with the ball just to the left of the middle of the field and kicked it out wide right to
Jeff Masters who streaked down the sideline. Masters then took it to the end line and crossed it into Yankowitz who took care of the rest with a diving header.
Just under six minutes later, Lindenwood knotted up the score at one goal apiece, but that would be it for either team as the defenses stood strong the rest of the way. Behind the Truman defense and in goal for his first career start,
Jacob Gunn made a pair of saves.
In the team head-to-head, the Bulldogs dominated in shots to the tune of 14-7 to go with a slim advantage in corner kicks, 5-4.
Next up, Truman will make their home debut on Sunday against Purdue Northwest with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m.
