Lawrence Woods Garners GLVC Special Teams Player Of The Week Award

INDIANAPOLIS – Truman return specialist Lawrence Woods was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after returning his second kickoff for a touchdown this season on Saturday in Truman's 34-20 win over Valparaiso.

Woods raced 92-yards after the Crusaders had cut the Bulldog lead down to seven at 20-13 with nine minutes to play in the fourth quarter. It was his second this season and third for his career tying him with Alfonso Pugh and Larry Jones for second on the Bulldog career kick return list. He is one away from Mike Laususe's school record of four set between 1974-77.

In five kick returns this season, Woods is averaging 50.6 yards per with two touchdowns. The last Bulldog with two returns for scores in a season was Jason Douglass in 2002.

The Truman special teams were spectacular on Saturday. Freshman kicker Josh Scheiderer tied a school record with four made field goals. He joined five other kickers on the list with the last being Mickey Masucci against Emporia State in 2007 in the record book. Senior kicker Brock Rohler averaged 63.2 yards on his eight kickoffs with three touchbacks. Rohler averaged 39.7 yards on three punts with a long of 49 as Truman has only allowed two of his 18 punts to be returned this year for a total of six yards.
