KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman State University men's soccer team hasn't been undefeated through its first three matches of the season since 2014 when it started 3-0-1. Fast forward to 2018 and the Bulldogs are 1-0-1 entering their final nonconference date of the fall against former MIAA and future GLVC foe, Southwest Baptist.
In the 13 all-time meetings between Truman and Southwest Baptist, the Bulldogs have never lost and have outscored the Bearcats 75-3. Saturday, Southwest Baptist will enter these two teams' 14th meeting with a record of 0-2 that includes losses at Oklahoma Christian on August 30 (2-0) and vs. McKendree (4-1) on September 2.
Offensively, so far for Truman, its four goals have come from four different players including
Matt Yankowitz,
Collin McDonough,
Jeff Masters, and
Trevor Kaufmann. The Bulldogs six assists have also each been provided by different sources including Yankowitz, McDonough,
Ian McCluskey,
Tristyn Hasmer, Masters, and
Danny Alter.
As you can see above, the junior, Yankowitz, redshirt sophomore, Masters, and true freshman, McDonough, lead the team in points with three each. McDonough did all of that damage in 12 minutes of his second collegiate match, a 3-2 comeback win over Purdue Northwest. The rookie assisted on the game-tying goal and scored the go-ahead goal just nine and a half minutes later. Because of that, he became the program's first ever GLVC Player of the Week as he got the nod for the offensive end on September 3.
