RECAP: Truman Swimming Splits with Wash-U on Senior Day

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - In the midst of honoring their five seniors, the Truman State University men's and women's swimming teams hosted Washington-St. Louis for 2018-19's final regular season meet. The women squeaked a win out by four, 133-129, but the men came up short, 170-85.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS
Truman's five seniors in the center of it all included Austin Baker and Sam Heveroh on the men's side along with Emma Barnett, Shannon Dague and Laney Klar for the women.

Head coach, Jerod Simek, mentioned that Baker has always stepped up well on relays for Truman over the years so he swam both on Sunday as well as the 50 free as a tuneup for GLVC's.

One of the men's four wins came in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:26.11 thanks to Heveroh, Jack McKenzie, Baker, and Lliot Gieseke.

The other men's senior, Heveroh, stepped up in the 100 breast (second - 58.25), which he'll compete in for the NCAA Championships, as well as the 100 free (first - 46.43).

Switching over to the women's side, they won six events to come away with the neck-and-neck victory.

Starting with Barnett, she swam well in the 1000 free (first - 10:30.76) to move up in the GLVC ranks and led the way in a stacked 200 back (first - 2:09.05) field that helped the Bulldogs win the meet for the women.

Dague had another solid showing in the 1000 free (second - 10:46.99) and also competed in the 200 IM (sixth - 2:18.68) for her Senior Day outing.

Last, but certainly not least, of the seniors was Klar who competed in the 100 breast (sixth - 1:16.84) and 100 free (10th - 59.03) to put some finishing touches on her 400 IM in a few weeks.

QUOTABLES
Truman Head Coach Jerod Simek
"The team really stepped up today and brought the energy for our last meet before conference and sent our seniors out on a high note! Overall, the team took it to another level today and Nikki (Finnesand) and I are even more confident in the team moving forward into the last push before GLVC's."

UP NEXT
As mentioned by coach Simek, next up for Truman is the GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 6-9 in Crawfordsville, Ind. at the Crawfordsville High School Aquatic Center.
