Women's Basketball Slotted Sixth In GLVC Coaches Poll

INDIANAPOLIS – The Truman Women's Basketball team was selected in a tie for sixth in the 2019-20 GLVC preseason coaches' poll. The Bulldogs will open their season with an exhibition game at the University of Missouri on Thursday, October 24.
 
 
Truman garnered 159 points to tie Maryville University for the sixth spot in the survey. Drury University was the unanimous choice to win the league and their first place-vote went to Maryville.
 
 
Lewis was selected second followed by Bellarmine, Southern Indiana and GLVC newcomer Lindenwood. Behind the Bulldogs and Saints were McKendree, Missouri-St. Louis, William Jewell, Indianapolis, Southwest Baptist, Rockhurst, Missouri S&T, Illinois Springfield and Quincy.
 
 
The Bulldogs won a school-record 23 games last season and qualified for their fourth NCAA Division II national tournament. In conference play, Truman was 13-5 and seeded fourth in the GLVC postseason tournament.  After defeating Maryville in the conference quarterfinals 88-82 in overtime, the Bulldogs were knocked out of the bracket by eventual champion Drury.
 
 
Lone senior Sloane Totta is a returning first-team all-GLVC honoree from last year. Totta averaged 11.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists while leading the team with 33 steals. 
 
 
Junior Katie Jaseckas averaged nine points and 5.7 rebounds while starting 27 of 30 games a year ago. Jaseckas was the GLVC Freshman of the Year in 2018.
 
 
Sophomore Maddie Re was named to the All-Freshman team last season in the conference was the team's leading rebounder at 7.1 boards per night.
 
 
Other returners include juniors Tiffany Davenport, Maya Mouton and sophomores Katey Klucking, Makenzie Bray and Allison Thomas.
 
 
Newcomers this year feature a pair of transfers. Junior Brioenne Burns played at Stephen F. Austin for two seasons and averaged 2.5 points per game in 41 contests. Sophomore Ellie Weltha transferred from the Illinois State University softball program. In high school, Weltha finished with a school record 1,644 points and 1,118 rebounds.
 
 
They will join true freshmen Hannah Belanger, Nicole Dorn, Hannah Pinkston, Kennedy Wallace and Alex Wiese.
 
 
The Bulldogs will open the regular season on November 9-10 at the GLIAC/GMAC/GLVC Conference Challenge hosted by Quincy University. The Bulldogs will play Wisconsin-Parkside and Ursuline College in the event.
 
 
The first home game is November 16 at 11 a.m. against Augustana (S.D.) University and first GLVC game will be December 3 against Quincy.
