PREVIEW: Men’s Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season Against Tritons and Lions

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Men's Soccer team will wrap up the regular season at Truman Soccer Park this weekend as they take on Missouri-St. Louis Friday at noon and Lindenwood at noon on Senior Day. They are one game behind eighth place Lewis for the final spot in the conference tournament.

Against the Lions on Sunday, the Bulldogs will honor five members of the team: Matt Yankowitz, Jake Koenig, Zach Vahlkamp, Jeff Masters and Mateo Montano. Yankowitz holds or tied for the team lead in goals for the fourth straight season, and Masters is second on the team in 2019 with three goals; with six goals in his Truman career. Vahlkamp led a back line that limited opponents to 1.67 goals against per game, and went over 1000 minutes played for the second straight year. Montano scored five goals in three seasons as a Bulldog, including one in the season opener this year at Northwood. He also picked up an assist at William Jewell in 2018. Jake Koenig was a four year member of the team, scoring three goals—including a game winner this season at Rockhurst. He made 38 starts in four seasons as a defender and midfielder.

The Tritons are led by Magnus Andersen, who is currently tied for second in the league in points with 24. His 11 goals this season is tied with McKendree's James Stone for most in the GLVC. Before Sunday's game against Drury, Andersen had scored in five straight games. UMSL comes in winners of four of their last six matches, including a 1-0 win over #2 Maryville on October 11. Overall, they are 6-10 on the season and 4-9 in conference play. As members of the GLVC, UMSL has a 5-1 advantage on Truman, with the Bulldogs taking a 2-1 decision in 2016.

Lindenwood comes in with a mark of 6-3-4 in the GLVC, fifth in the conference. They are unbeaten in their last six matches, with four wins—including nationally ranked Maryville. All-time the Lions have a 9-4-3 edge on the Bulldogs, with a 1-1 draw coming last season in Lindenwood's first year as a member of the GLVC. Luke McBeth leads the team with nine goals, and has added six assist to give him 24 points on the year—in a tie with Andersen of UMSL. Tim Licht guards the net for the Lions, his 49 saves rank him seventh in the GLVC.

As the regular season concludes, the team awaits to see their GLVC tournament fate.
