RECAP: Baseball Returned To Action Sunday In Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Truman Baseball team dropped a pair of games to perennial Division II stalwarts on Sunday.  Truman was defeated by Grand Valley State 13-1 and Southern Indiana 20-1 in non-conference action. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play at Central Missouri on Tuesday and at home next weekend against Lewis and Upper Iowa.
 
The Lakers got a two-out RBI single to go up 1-0 in the top of the third but Truman with a run of their own. Kory Carter singled up the middle then Brendan Kelly pushed one through the left side. Mason King turned the lineup over with a bunt single that had an error attached to it allowing Carter to make the turn and score.
 
Grand Valley got another two-out RBI with a triple scoring a leadoff single in the fourth.
 
They added single runs in the sixth and seventh before putting up nine in the eighth for the run-rule win.
 
Connor McKenna struck out six in six innings of work for Truman.
 
After allowing nine in the eighth, Southern Indiana sent 14 hitters to the dish and plated nine runs in their half of the first inning in game two. A grand slam by Ethan Hunter highlighted the frame for the Screaming Eagles.
 
Truman scratched out a run in the top of the second when Reid Wilson picked up a two-out single followed by a walk to Jack Goodwin and an RBI hit from Kory Carter.
 
However, the defending Midwest region champions responded with two more in their half of the second, five in the third and four in the sixth for the win.
 
Blake Bagenstos started and took the loss falling to 0-2.
