RECAP: Truman Drops Pair On Opening Day

SEARCY, Ark. – Harding University swept a doubleheader from Truman on Friday. The Bison won the opener 8-2 and the nightcap 7-1. The teams will return to the diamond on Saturday for another twinbill and wrap-up the four-game series.

Game 1 (Harding 8, Truman 2) Box Score
Junior transfer Steven Bradbury went 3-for-4 in his Bulldog debut and sophomore Jack Goodwin had a double and two hits in the 8-2 loss. Truman took the early 2-0 in the second inning when Bradbury started the frame with an infield single. He went to second on a wild pitch and to third on a wild pitch strikeout to Brian Edell.

Kory Carter hit a sac fly to left to score Bradbury and Goodwin followed with a double scoring Edell.

The lead didn't last long as the Bison responded with a pair of their own in their half of the second. A pair of doubles and a bunt single tied the game.

Truman stranded the bases loaded in the fifth and Harding used that momentum shift to score twice in their half of the inning. The Bison added one more in the sixth and three in the eighth to pull away.

Rian Markes went five innings in getting the start for Truman. He allowed two earned runs and struck out five.

Game 2 (Harding 7, Truman 1) Box Score
Harding's Tanner Smith allowed one hit over six innings and the Bison plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before downing Truman 7-1 in the nightcap. Smith threw 97 pitches and allowed only a double to Brendan Kelly in the fourth inning before departing for the seventh. He fanned eight Truman hitters.

Evan Kayser led off the seventh and greeted reliever William Leger with a solo home run over the left field fence.  Holden Missey followed later in the inning with a single to pick up his first collegiate hit.

Connor McKenna allowed six earned runs on eight hits in three plus innings in his first start as a Bulldog.
