Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Baseball team sent 15 hitters to the plate in the top of the eighth inning and scored 11 times to take game one of their three-game series with Rockhurst on Saturday by a score of 13-10. The teams are scheduled to play two tomorrow.

The Bulldogs found themselves trailing 4-0 after four innings of play but Reid Wilson knocked his first Bulldog home run over the right field fence to cut the Hawks lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth.

Rockhurst struck back with five in their half of the fifth and added another in the sixth to go up 10-2.

Wilson started the eighth by drawing a leadoff walk then Evan Kayser and Steven Bradbury were each hit by pitches. Brian Edell was issued a four-pitch walk that scored Wilson and chased reliever Jonathan Fink from the mound.

An error compounded the Hawks problems when Holden Missey reached on a fielder's choice but an errant throw by the shortstop allowed two runs to score. The next two hitters were retired but Kory Carter pinch hit and was drilled to load the bases back up. Mason King fell behind in the count 0-2 but coxed four straight out of the zone for an RBI then Wilson turned the lineup over with an infield RBI single.

Rockhurst went to the pen again up 10-7 but Thomas Jones didn't have command of the zone and issued run scoring walks to Kayser and Bradbury to make it 10-9. Edell then drove in two on a hit to right center and Missey brought it two more with a single up the middle. In all, Truman scored 11 runs on three hits, one Rockhurst error, five walks and three hit batsmen.

Jacob Mertz got the final out in the eighth leaving a pair of runners in scoring position and Caleb Buehrle tossed an uneventful ninth to earn his first save.

The win was career number 200 for Head Coach Dan Davis.

The Hawks outhit the Bulldogs 15-6 and each team stranded seven runners. Wilson, Edell and Missey had three RBIs each.
