KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After a tough loss in the first game of the day, Rockhurst was able to take both ends of Monday's doubleheader over the Truman Baseball team. The Bulldogs return to the diamond on Wednesday with a GLVC twinbill with QUincy on the road.
Game 1 Recap:
The Bulldogs led 4-2 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but a two-run homer by Luke Sosaya followed by a solo shot from Connor Ellefson lifted Rockhurst to a 5-4 win in the opener.
The Hawks struck first in the second with an RBI double from Colby Smith but Reid Wilson tied it in the third with an RBI single scoring Brendan Kelly for Truman.
Rockhurst retook the lead in their half of the third when Alex Van Pelt doubled with one out.
Truman got in front in the fourth with a three-spot. Brian Edell hit a one-out single and Holden Missey doubled to left center scoring Edell. With two outs, Ethan Kleinheider delivered his first home run of the season to put the Bulldogs up 4-2.
Connor McKenna worked six innings, allowing nine hits and two runs while walking and striking out four each. Blake Bagenstos pitched the final two innings and was tagged with the loss. Daniel Kohl tossed the final three and two-thirds innings and did not allow a hit to pick up the win in relief.
Game 2 Recap:
Mason Hatch couldn't get out of the third inning and Rockhurst grabbed a 7-0 lead before winning the finale 14-2 in seven innings.
Truman had a two-out rally in the fourth when
Ethan Kleinheider and
Adam Stolley collected singles.
Mason King drew a walk and
Reid Wilson had an RBI hit. An error led to Stolley crossing the plate but Truman stranded the bases loaded.
Rockhurst added a single run in the fifth then closed the game out on a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Wilson went 2-for-3 with a walk for the Bulldogs.
