RECAP: Truman Earns Split Over #6 Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – For the second time this season, the Truman Baseball team earned a split with a nationally-rated team. The Bulldogs defeated #6 Quincy Hawks 11-6 in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader before the Hawks took the nightcap 11-0. Truman returns home for four straight, three with Drury on Saturday and Sunday and one more against Quincy next Tuesday.
 
Truman earlier defeated Illinois Springfield when they were ranked third in Division II.
 
Game 1 Recap:
Holden Missey went 2-for-3 and brought in the game winning RBI with a two-run single in the fifth inning as Truman knocked off Quincy 11-6 in the opener.
 
The teams traded runs early with Missey scoring after doubling in the second on a hit by Jack Goodwin but Quincy countered with a run of their own.
 
In the fourth, Truman scored four times with Ethan Kleinheider and Goodwin each getting RBI hits.
 
Quincy fired back with a four-spot in their fourth.
 
The fifth was the turning point. Evan Kayser picked up a single with one out and Steven Bradbury followed with a hit leading up to Missey's at bat. Adam Stolley doubled and Kleinheider reached on a hit. Goodwin picked up his third RBI on a hit and Brenden Kelly drove in the fifth run on a fielder's choice.
 
Mason King added an exclamation with a leadoff home run in the sixth.
 
Caleb Buehrle got the win after pitching seven innings and striking out three. He was followed to the hill by Tanner Forck and King.
Game 2 Recap:
 
Dalton Overstreet allowed only two hits and struck out four as the Hawks defeated Truman 11-0 in the second game of the series. The top four hitters in the QU lineup had 10 of the 11 RBI and were 7-of-14 against the Truman pitching staff.
 
Quincy scored two runs in the second, then three in the third, four in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Lance Logsdon and Jeff Hightower had home runs.
