KANSAS CITY, Mo—It was a marathon, but the Truman men's soccer team won their third in a row on Friday night as they took down Rockhurst on the road 1-0 on a double overtime goal by
Jake Koenig. It was his third career goal and first since September 9, 2018 against Southwest Baptist. The team has won their first two conference games this season.
Rockhurst tested Truman goalie
Roy Hart very early as in the second minute RU's Josh Lindell got the first shot on goal of the game, but Hart made the save. Truman got their first shot of the game in the 14
th minute, off the foot of
Ian McCluskey but it went wide left. Just a couple minutes later TSU got their first shot on goal off the head of
Will Clayton. It was saved by Rockhurst goalie Peter Baker. In the first half, each team had five shots with two on goal. Rockhurst led with three corners and TSU had zero.
Rockhurst managed the only shot on goal in the second half, which came right at the end of the half off the foot of Adam Burnett. But once again, Hart was up to the challenge. Early on in the first overtime period, Pablo Salvador Lopez tested Hart once again. But Hart kept the ball out of the net.
It did not take long into the second overtime period for the Bulldogs to strike.
Andrew Brennan took a corner kick just over a minute into the frame and it was put in by Koenig from 28 yards out into the upper right corner. It is Hart's second shutout of the season after keeping Quincy off the board on Sunday; and fifth career shutout. He made four saves in total.
The team will hit the pitch next on Sunday afternoon at William Jewell.
