RECAP: Truman Wins Fourth Straight Behind Koenig's Two Assists

LIBERTY, Mo.—The Truman men's soccer team put their three game winning streak on the line as they concluded their weekend against KC metro area teams at William Jewell. The hosts came into the game seeking their first win of the season, but instead Truman got their fourth straight win as they defeated the Cardinals 2-1.

The Bulldogs got their first shot of the game less than a minute into the game off the foot of Simo Valentino, but it went wide. The first shot on goal came in the 11th minute from Collin McDonough. Thirteen minutes in the Cardinals got on the board as Charlie Parrish got his first goal of the season with Griffin King got the assist. Just over 24 minutes in, TSU had a corner kick but could not convert on the scoring opportunity. Finally, in the 34th minute Jeff Masters hit the back of the net for the equalizer from a few yards away off the free kick pass. Jake Koenig picked up the assist. A late save from Joey Keane kept the match at 1-1 heading into the break.

In the second half, the teams struggled to generate offense. In the 65th minute Jack Austin got the first shot on goal of the half but it was saved. Will Clayton and Ryan Stites both tested Jose Cambreros but could not get it past the Cardinal keeper. In the 82nd minute Matt Yankowitz got his second goal of the season, and Koenig got his second assist of the game to put the Bulldogs up 2-1. The Truman defense stood tough the rest of the match and saw out the 2-1 win.

The Bulldogs had the advantage in shots at 16-12, more corners at 5-0 and six shots on goal to five for William Jewell.

Truman will head to Indianapolis to take on U Indy this Friday at 6:30 before coming back home to play Bellarmine Sunday at Truman Soccer Park at noon.
