RECAP: Bulldogs Bounce Back in Win Over Rockhurst

ALVA, Okla.—The Truman baseball team closed out their opening three game set with a win over the Rockhurst Hawks in a non-conference showdown. Holden Missey scored a run and picked up the win as a pitcher and designated hitter as the Bulldogs won 5-4.

Truman wasted no time getting on the board as leadoff hitter Brendan Kelly got on base after being hit by a pitch. He then stole second and then Reid Wilson doubled to right to bring Kelly in for their lone run of the frame. Rockhurst got the run back in the bottom of the first, going to the second tied at one.

In the top of the second, Will Fromm led off with a double down the right field line and then advanced to third on a pass ball. Fromm scored when Jake Schneider reached on a fielder's choice, putting the Bulldogs up 2-1. After two strikeouts, Missey singled and brought Jack Darwin in to score. After Rockhurst got one back in the bottom of the second, Truman went into the third up 3-2.

The Bulldogs got back on the board in the fifth when Missey came into score on a single from Darwin. Missey led off with a walk, then Steven Bradbury singled to move Missey to second. Missey  advanced on a flyout before being brought in by Darwin. The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 5-2 in the sixth after a double from Kelly and a single from Wilson when Missey reached on a fielder's choice to bring Kelly in to score.

Rockhurst got one run back in the seventh and one run back in the ninth, but Nick Draheim closed it out in the ninth and picked up his first save of the season. Missey went five innings with four strikeouts and allowed just two runs.

Kelly got six hits in ten at bats through the first three games while Wilson collected four RBIs to lead the team. Truman will be back in action at Rogers State in Claremore, Okla. for a three game set starting on the 15th.
