KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman State Men's Basketball team has now won three in a row with victories last week over Southern Indiana, William Jewell and at Drury. The successful week moved the Bulldogs up a spot as they are now 12th in the NABC poll this week. The season continues this week as they host Missouri S&T as well as Maryville, looking for payback against the lone team to defeat them this season in the latter.
Against the Screaming Eagles, Truman got off to a slow start but rallied in the second half to win the game. Elijah Hazekamp scored 16 points to lead the way while Cade McKnight scored 15 and Masen Miller and Dylan Peeters each had 13. Hazekamp also led the way with seven rebounds while Peeters grabbed four. Against the Cardinals Alex McQuinn, Turner Scott and McKnight each had 15 points to tie for the team lead--for McQuinn it was a career high. In a crucial game at Drury McKnight had 17, while Masen Miller drained five threes and finished with 16 points. Conely Garrison came into the game leading the GLVC with 25.8 points a game for Drury, but the Bulldogs held him to just three points.
At 17.9 points per game, McKnight now is tied for sixth in the GLVC in points per game; with Julien Smith of Missouri S&T. He has broken the 20 point barrier twice this season with 26 against UMSL (one shy of his career high) and 25 against Quincy. He's very close to the 900 point mark for his career at 891 entering Thursday night's game.
Peeters remains second in the conference in rebounds per game with 9.7, trailing only Josh Price of Southern Indiana. He's also third on the team with 13.2 points per game and leads with ten blocks. His double-double count is at six, tied with Jared Vitztum of Fort Hays State for the most in the nation.
Scott is averaging a career high 11.6 points per game, and needs just 124 more to reach 1,000. He leads the GLVC in assists with 6.0 per game, and has now tied Jimmy Gooden for fifth place in program history with 356. Cory Myers is in fourth place with 471. With 20 three pointers, he is second on the team trailing only Masen Miller's 29. Miller leads the GLVC in threes made and in threes made per game.
Elijah Hazekamp has shown his range from outside the arc so far this season as he is third on the team with 16 three point buckets. He scored in double figures five times so far this season and is second on the team with 6.4 rebounds per game.
As a team, Truman ranks second in scoring with 80 points per game and fifth in scoring defense at 71.2 allowed per game. The +8.8 difference is second only to Southwest Baptist.
