QUINCY, Ill.—The Truman Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Quincy on Saturday as the Hawks took the final three sets after the Bulldogs took the first one (17-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-19). Ellie Kaat led the way with eight kills for the second straight match while Rachel DeFries led with 16 assists.

Quincy got off to a fast start in the first set with an 8-4 lead, but the Bulldogs blocked four straight attacks for points. Ainsley Heise was part of all four blocks, with assists from Morgan Smith and Emma Berthold twice each. After the set was tied at nine each, the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to all but seal the set. Ultimately Truman took the set by eight points.

In the second set, Quincy took a 7-2 lead to start the set and never looked back as they won the set by 12.

Set number three was tight early on. Allison Beaton picked up a kill to tie the set at four, and then a kill from Heise and a block from Heise and Berthold on back to back plays tied it at eight. With an ensuing 4-0 run, Quincy took momentum in the set and the match, taking the set by nine points.

Down 10-7 in the fourth set, a 3-0 run for Truman tied it up with kills from DeFries and Berthold. The middle of the set went back and forth, and an ace by Katy Motz drew Truman within one at 18-17. But Quincy took seven of the final nine points to win the set and match.

Lindsay Woltering set a career high with 22 digs, and Heise set a career high with ten total blocks.   

Truman will be back in action against Quincy this coming Friday in Kirksville, with a 7 p.m. first serve.
