KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman State Men's Basketball team got back on track with a win at home over Southern Indiana on Sunday. Now their busy week will feature a game at home against William Jewell Wednesday night and a road game at Drury Saturday afternoon. After losing their perfect season against Maryville on New Year's Eve, Truman is now ranked #13 in this week's NABC poll.
Against the Screaming Eagles, Truman got off to a slow start but rallied in the second half to win the game. Elijah Hazekamp scored 16 points to lead the way while Cade McKnight scored 15 and Masen Miller and Dylan Peeters each had 13. Hazekamp also led the way with seven rebounds while Peeters grabbed four.
At 18.4 points per game, McKnight sits sixth in the GLVC in scoring average. With Sunday's performance, he has now become the active leader in points scored with 859 for his career.
Peeters is second in the conference in rebounds per game with 10.3, trailing only Josh Price of Southern Indiana. He's also third on the team with 13.6 points per game and leads with eight blocks. His 1.14 blocks per game are tied for eight in the GLVC.
Scott is averaging a career high 12.8 points per game, and needs just 144 more to reach 1,000. He currently is third in the GLVC in assists with 6.0 per game, and needs 12 more to reach fifth in program history. With 16 three pointers, he is second on the team trailing only Masen Miller's 24. Miller is tied for the lead in the GLVC with four three pointers per game.Â
Elijah Hazekamp has shown his range from outside the arc so far this season as he is tied for third on the team with ten three point buckets. He scored a dozen in each of the first two games and he remains second on the team with 6.3 rebounds a game.
As a team, Truman third in scoring offense at 81.6 points per game and fifth in scoring defense at 73.0 points against.
Cardinals Scouting Report
Chris McCabe enters his second year as the head coach of the Cardinals, winning 11 games a season ago. Freshman Grant Stubbs has made an instant impact for the team, leading the Cardinals in rebounds with 8.0 per game. He's also second on the team with 13.4 points per game, trailing only Mason Alexander who leads the team with 14.0 per game. Alexander leads the team with 12 threes.
After winning the season opener over Indianapolis, the Cardinals have dropped their last four games to Southern Indiana, Southwest Baptist, Missouri S&T and UMSL.
Panthers Scouting Report
Drury entered the season as the favorites in the GLVC West. In last year's GLVC Tournament they entered as the 8 seed and came within a bucket of upsetting top seeded UMSL. Conely Garrison leads the team with 23 points per game, second in the GLVC. His 12 three pointers lead the team and he's tied for the team lead with five steals.
The Panthers dropped their first game of the season to Missouri S&T 96-89, but have won their last two games--downing Lindenwood 90-84 and Maryville 86-59. Wednesday night the Panthers will face McKendree before taking on the Bulldogs.Â
Series Histories
The Bulldogs have owned the series with the Cardinals, winning 17 of 21 matchups. The Bulldogs have won all 12 meetings between the two as members of the GLVC; dating back to 2014. The two had not met since 1971, and of the first nine matchups from 1920-1971; Truman won five of them.
Drury leads the series with Truman 12-8 all time. The two have met nine times as members of the GLVC, with Drury taking five of those meetings. The two teams only met twice before 1992--in 1923 and 1938. Currently Drury is on a two game winning streak, with the last Bulldog win coming in March of 2018.

The Bulldogs will return home next week for matchups against Missouri S&T on the 14th and Maryville on the 16th.
