KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman State Men's Basketball team moved up to #7 in the NABC poll this week, and will be back in action at home this week as they host the University of Indianapolis and Lewis University. The Bulldogs enter this week winners of five straight games--their most recent pre-quarantine action being emphatic victories over Missouri S&T and Maryville. They won the two games by an average of 31 points, and shot 54.8% from the field in those two games. Against Maryville the Bulldogs had a season high 19 assists and ten steals, and against the Miners tied their season high with 12 made threes.
The Bulldogs are seeing both the Greyhounds and Flyers for the second time each this season, and won on the road in the first two games of the season against them. In the season opener at Lewis, Truman ran away with a 55 point second half to win 86-65. Six Bulldogs reached double figures, led by Cade McKnight's 18. Against the Greyhounds, Truman edged out the road win 66-64, Dylan Peeters had 14 points and 14 rebounds for his fourth career double-double.
At 16.9 points per game, McKnight now is ninth in the GLVC. He has broken the 20 point barrier twice this season with 26 against UMSL (one shy of his career high) and 25 against Quincy. He's very close to the 900 point mark for his career at 899 entering Thursday night's game.
Peeters leads the GLVC in rebounds with 10.2 per game. He's also third on the team with 13.0 points per game and leads with 11 blocks. His double-double count is at seven, tied for the most in the nation with Jared Vitztum of Fort Hays State. Peeters has played two fewer games due to the recent quarantine.
Scott is averaging a career high 10.7 points per game, and needs just 110 more to reach 1,000 career points. He is first in the GLVC with 5.7 assists per game by a wide margin--second place is Jamaurie Coakley of Quincy at 5.0. He has now passed Jimmy Gooden for fifth place in program history with 365 assists. Cory Myers is in fourth place with 471. With 22 three pointers, he is third on the team. Against Maryville he passed 3,000 minutes played as a Bulldog.
Hunter Strait reached double figures for the sixth time this season with 14 against Missouri S&T, Hazekamp scored 17 to tie for the team lead against Maryville, Alex McQuinn reached double figures with ten in both games over the weekend--including his first start of the season against Missouri S&T. Owen Coburn had his best game as a Bulldog with 11 points against S&T as well.
As a team, Truman is tied for first in the GLVC in scoring with 80.5 points per game and first in scoring defense at 67.6 points allowed per game. The Bulldogs have a scoring differential of +12.8, well ahead of second place Southwest Baptist's +11.4.
