KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Men's Basketball team picked up its sixth straight win on Thursday with a 79-67 win over UIndy. After the Greyhounds got the first basket of the game, the Bulldogs reeled off 15 straight and never trailed again. Elijah Hazekamp had his first Truman double-double as he led the team with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Turner Scott also set a career high with 12 assists.
Dee Montgomery made the first basket of the game for UIndy, but Truman started their big run with a layup from Dylan Peeters, followed by a three from Masen Miller, a two pointer from Cade McKnight, the first of three threes from Hazekamp, a trey from McKnight and two from the foul line for Peeters. Truman led by double digits most of the first half, but with 4:36 to go UIndy pulled within seven at 28-21. With the Greyhounds gaining momentum as the half closed, Scott and Sam Nissen made three pointers in the final two minutes to push the Truman lead to 39-25 going into the intermission.
In the second half, a three point play from Hazekamp gave Truman a 19 point lead with 17:58 to go. The Bulldogs led by double digits most of the second half, but with 9:03 to go the Greyhounds drew within seven at 57-50. After picking up another point on a foul shot, UIndy was within six. Nissen answered with his second three pointer of the game, pushing the lead back to nine. From there Truman pushed the lead back to double digits and saw out the rest of the game for the 12 point win.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday as they host Lewis University at 3:15 p.m.
