LEBANON, Ill.--The Truman Men's Soccer team fell 3-2 in the waning minutes of overtime Friday night at McKendree. After a goalless first half, four second half goals forced the game into the extra sessions.
James Stone nearly got the Bearcats on the board just over a minute into the game, but Julian Echeverri stood tall in net for the Bulldogs. However, Stone would get the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.
Just under ten minutes later, Andy Brennan got the Bulldogs on the board with a shot put into the top right hand corner for the goal. Just a few minutes later, Raul Artega came in for McKendree, replacing their goal scorer Stone, and scored himself to break the tie. It looked like the hosts had the game wrapped up but Luke Payne scored a goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Sam Newton, to send the game to overtime.
McKendree managed the only shot of the first overtime session, which Echeverri stopped to keep the game going. The only shot on goal in the second overtime came off the foot of Artega, which he put past Echeverri into the left corner of the net.
The Bulldogs will be back on the pitch Sunday as they take on Southern Indiana in Evansville. Kick off is slated for noon.
