RECAP: Men’s Soccer Falls 3-2 at USI

EVANSVILLE, Ind.--The Truman Men's Soccer team dropped another one goal contest on the road Sunday as they fell 3-2 at Southern Indiana. The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the 72nd minute but two late goals from the Screaming Eagles lifted them over the Bulldogs. Sam Newton picked up his third goal of the season to lead the team and Adam Shine got his first goal of the season.

USI grabbed the first goal of the game in the 20th minute as Graham Miller beat Truman keeper Julian Echeverri to open the scoring. The Bulldogs would even it up as Newton scored his third of the season--assisted by Holden Potter. The freshman to freshman connection evened up the game at one, and it would be the lone shot on goal for the Bulldogs in the first half. Echeverri made four saves in the frame.

In the second half, Truman got the first chance to get on the board as Luke Payne put an effort on net that was saved in the 55th minute. In the 72nd minute, Shine had his first shot blocked but his second effort found the back of the net and gave Truman the lead. Just 79 seconds later, Zach Barton evened it up for the hosts. In the 80th minute, there were three saves made as Echeverri stopped USI's Dan Hartman twice and then Thomas Weber nearly got his first goal in a Bulldog uniform but was saved by USI. Colten Walsh ultimately got the winner in the 84th minute, and from there ran out the time on the Bulldogs.

Truman will return home this Friday as they host Indianapolis Friday afternoon and then Lewis on Sunday afternoon.
