KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Volleyball team concluded the regular season Saturday with a convincing 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-13) sweep of Maryville. Two Bulldog seniors played their final game at Pershing Arena,
Sam Yancy and
Emma Berthold. Berthold was second on the team with 8.5 points and racked up six kills. Yancy reached double digit digs with ten and totaled five kills.
Morgan Smith led with 12 kills and reached a double-double with 10 digs.
Lindsay Woltering led with 13 digs and
Katy Motz led with 18 assists.
In the first set, Truman jumped out to an 8-1 lead.
Allison Beaton got the first point of the game, and in the run Yancy, Berthold and Smith all picked up kills. After Maryville picked up a point, Truman went on a 5-0 run, with Woltering picking up an ace. The Bulldogs cruised ther rest of the set, with
Ainsley Heise also picking up an ace.
To start the second set, Maryville flipped the script on Truman. The Saints jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but unfazed Truman would rally back. A few MU errors and a kill from Smith got Truman within three at 10-7, but a quick 3-0 run by Maryville put the Bulldogs back in a six point hole. Kills from Berthold and
Emma Wollert bookended a 4-0 run that made it 13-11. Truman kept chipping away and from down 16-14 a 4-0 spurt gave the Bulldogs the lead at 18-16. Berthold tied it with a kill and back to back aces from Motz put the Bulldogs on top. Maryville knotted it up at 18, but a 4-0 run gave Truman a 22-18 edge and saw out the set for a three point win.
After splitting the first six points of the set evenly, Truman took four the next five point to take a 7-4 lead. Later with the score 9-6, a kill from Beaton and service ace from Yancy gave the Bulldogs a 12-6 lead and set the tone for the rest of the set. Truman was able to keep Maryville at arm's length and a 4-0 spurt up 14-10 put the Bulldogs comfortably ahead. Truman would close the set on a 4-0 run that included a kill from Smith.
The Bulldogs await their GLVC Tournament seeding. The conference tournament is set to start on April 15th.Â
