RECAP: Carter Goes Yard Again, But Panthers All Over Bulldogs in Opener

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Baseball team opened a four game set against Drury University on Friday afternoon, and a big first inning from the Panthers put the Bulldogs in too big of a hole to climb out of. Drury got up 8-0 after the top of the first and could not be caught as they went on to win 19-6. Kory Carter hit his ninth homer of the season but it was not enough as Panther bats would not be slowed down. Logan Pittman got the win to move to 1-2 while Connor McKenna took the loss to drop to 0-5.

Finding themselves down 8-0 following the top of the first, the Bulldogs did not go down easy as they battled to get three in the bottom of the frame. Steven Bradbury got a two out triple, Carter followed with a walk and then Jack Darwin brought Bradbury in to score. Next up, Holden Missey continued swinging his hot bat as he singled up the middle to bring both Carter and Darwin in.

It was 8-3 in the top of the second, when Drury's Clayton Engel hit the first of his three home runs. His solo shot made it 9-3. In the top of the third Drury went up 12-3, but the Bulldogs got two back in the bottom of the third as Carter launched one over the fence in right to make it 12-5.

In the top of the fourth, Drury took back the momentum with a six run frame. Jake Schneider drove in the last Bulldog run in the bottom of the fifth as he singled through the right side, bringing home Darwin; who had led off the inning with a single to centerfield.

Carter homered for the 8th time in the last nine games, Darwin picked up three hits in four at bats and Missey now has ten RBI's in the last five games.

The teams will be back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader starting at noon.
