Nine Straight For Truman As Bulldogs Bounce Tritons 69-62

ST. LOUIS - Hannah Belanger scored 23 points and the Truman Women's Basketball team ended Missouri-St. Louis' 10-game winning streak with a 69-62 victory on Thursday night. It was a school-record, ninth straight win for the Bulldogs.

Truman (12-5; 8-1 GLVC) came out on fire as they hit on 11 of their first 14 shots including four of six from outside and led 26-14 toward the end of the first quarter.

The Tritons (10-2; 6-1 GLVC) started reeling the Bulldogs in eventually tied the game at 50 with 1:21 left in the third quarter. Grace Stugart hit a free throw and Truman scored five straight to start the fourth quarter.

Allison Thomas' hoop with 6:30 to play gave the Bulldogs an eight-point lead at 61-53 but following a timeout, the Tritons scored seventh straight to pull within one at 61-60 with 5:04 to go.

With 1:13 to play, Katey Klucking pivoted around the lane and got a late shot clock bucket to push the lead out to three at 65-62.

Following a miss on the UMSL end, Belanger gathered in the rebound. The Tritons would be forced to foul and get the Bulldog into the bonus. Ellie Weltha found herself in a familiar spot at the line late in a game and came through again with two makes to extend the lead back out to five. Thomas would make two more free throws to seal the victory and finish 14 points.

Truman shot 57.7% for the game.

Kiara Stewart led the Tritons with 17 points.

The Bulldogs previous best, eight-game winning streak occurred during the 2014 season. They will look to extend their victories when they head across the Missouri River to Lindenwood University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
