Bulldogs Split with Miners Saturday

ROLLA, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team got back in the win column with a win in game one of the doubleheader Saturday 10-8, but the Miners took game two 5-4. In game one Connor McKenna (3-3) picked up the win while Holden Missey picked up his third save and Cade Meier (2-1) took the loss. In game two Jacob Cook (2-1) got the win while Michael Daggett (1-6) took the loss.

Game One

In the top of the first, Brennan Perkins got a two out single—and then Kevin Donohue pinch ran for him. Missey then doubled down the left field line to push Donohue to third and then Donohue scored on an error by the left fielder.

After S&T evened it at one in the bottom of the fifth, and then in the top of the sixth Truman struck back, Dakota Spicer got a one out double and then came in to score on a single by Jack Darwin. Simon Murray came up next and reached on an error which allowed Dylan Thompson to score, and then Sam Smith (running for Darwin) scored on an error by the Miner's first baseman to make it 4-1. S&T got one back in the bottom of the frame to make it 4-2.

In the top of the seventh Truman struck for six runs, with the first three batters reaching. Spicer came up with the bases loaded and singled to bring Donohue in. Later Smith walked to bring in a runner. Murray came up next and doubled to bring in two runs and then Tal Dean came up and singled to second and then an error brought in another run on the same play to make it 10-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, S&T struck for six runs. But Missey came in with two outs in relief of McKenna and got the last out to preserve the Truman win.

Game Two

Perkins got a one out single and Missey followed up with a two run homer to center field. In the bottom of the frame S&T got one run back with a steal of home. In the top of the third, Missey hit a double to right and then advanced to third then scored on wild pitches. In the top of the fourth Truman got on the board again as Murray got a two out single, then moved to third on a single by Dean and then scored on a single by Perkins to make it 4-1.

From there, S&T scored four straight runs to go up 5-4. In the top of the seventh Truman had one last chance. With two outs, Missey reached on an error. On a wild pitch he moved to second and then to third. But the Bulldogs were unable to bring the tying run in from 90 feet away.

The series will conclude tomorrow at noon.
