Bulldogs Earn Series Split With Sunday Win

ROLLA, Mo.—The Truman Baseball team picked up their 11th win of the 2022 campaign as they defeated Missouri S&T 8-5 on Sunday afternoon, which split the four game set with the Miners. Alex Leary (3-3) picked up the win for the Bulldogs while Nate Wodka (1-1) took the loss and Holden Missey picked up his fourth save of the season.

The Miners jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Truman jumped back out in front in the second inning. Dakota Spicer led off with a single to center field and then Luke Roussel reached on a bunt single. Justin Maloney hit a sac bunt with one out to move both runners into scoring position, then Simon Murray followed and reached after being hit by a pitch. Tal Dean came up with the bases loaded and singled through the right side to bring in two runs.

Truman struck for one more as Jake Schneider singled through the left side with Spicer on second base in the third inning with two outs. Then in the fourth Dean doubled to left center with one out and then came in on a single by Missey.

Reaching the bottom of the fifth, S&T got one run back; but Truman answered in the top of the sixth as Maloney scored on a wild pitch after reaching on an error to lead off the inning—putting the Bulldogs up 5-2.

In the bottom of the seventh the Miners scored two more to pull within one at 5-4. But once again the Bulldogs had an answer in the top of the eighth as Missey singled to left and drove in Murray and Dean to make it 7-4.

Starting in the bottom of the eighth, Missey took over for Leary and was able to earn a six out save. In the top of the ninth Maloney scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-4, and from there S&T got one run in the bottom of the ninth but the Bulldogs held on for the win.

Truman will be back in action at home this Tuesday as they host William Jewell at three o'clock.
