Flyers Ground Bulldogs, Sweep Doubleheader

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—After a thunderous start to a four game series Friday, the Truman Baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Lewis Flyers Saturday. In game one, Connor McKenna (3-6) struck out four batters to put himself just two short of the Truman all-time record for career K's but took the loss whgile Anthony Sorrentino (2-1) got the win and Jake Lotz his first save as Lewis won 8-3. In game two Michael Daggett (2-9) went 5.2 innings but took the loss while Jonathan Hanscom (3-3) got the win as Lewis won 11-5.

The Truman offense got crucial hits from Brennan Perkins, who had an RBI double in game one and an RBI single in game two, Holden Missey, who had two RBI in game one, and Will Fromm, who a two RBI double in game two.

Game One

With two on in the bottom of the first and one out, Missey singled through the left side and drove Kevin Donohue in to score and put Truman up 1-0. McKenna kept the Flyers off the scoreboard for the first two innings but in the top of the third the Flyers broke through. Truman answered in the bottom of the third with a leadoff walk by Tal Dean and a sac bunt to move to second. Perkins came up and doubled to left to bring Dean in, and Missey followed with a double to bring Perkins in and make it a 3-1 game.

From there, Lewis scored seven unanswered to take the game.

Game Two

In the first Truman struck first again as Luke Turner singled with one out, then stole second to set up Perkins who singled to put runners at the corners. Perkins moved to second on a groundout and then Fromm doubled to right to bring Turner and Perkins in to score.

Lewis scored the next three runs, but in the bottom of the third with Turner at third base Missey hit into a fielder's choice but Turner managed to evade the tag and tied the game up at three.

In the top of the fifth Lewis scored on a wild pitch to go ahead 4-3, but Perkins singled up the middle with two outs to bring Donohue in to score and tie the game. An RBI double in the top of the sixth gave the Flyers back the lead at 5-4, the first in seven consecutive runs as they went up 11-4. In the bottom of the seventh the Bulldogs had the bases loaded with one out and a balk brought in the last run of the game for Truman.

The team will wrap up their series tomorrow at noon on Senior Day for the Bulldogs.
