QUINCY, Ill. - The Ursuline (Ohio) Arrows used a strong second half and downed the Truman State Women's Basketball team in the season tip off on Friday afternoon 66-57. The Arrows erased an 11-point second quarter deficit and outscored the Bulldogs 21-5 in the third quarter.
Ellie Weltha led Truman in scoring with 23 points and added 12 rebounds for her 35th career double-double. Ainsley Tolson added 14 and Lexie White scored 10.
Michaela Cloonan scored 23 points for the Arrows while Alexis Frazee knocked down six three-pointers en route to 18 points, most in the second half.Â
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start and a 10-2 run midway through the second half gave Truman State their largest lead of 11 at 28-17. The Arrows closed to within three but the Bulldogs scored the final six points to take a halftime lead of 34-25.Â
The third quarter roles reversed. Ursuline forced seven Truman turnovers in the first five minutes of the half and a 12-1 run gave the Arrows a 37-35 lead. The Bulldogs made just one field goal in the quarter and had 11 turnovers as Ursuline headed into the fourth with a 46-39 lead.
The Bulldogs got as close as five in the fourth quarter but offensive rebounds in the final 10 minutes allowed the Arrows to maintain the lead. Both teams finished with over 20 turnovers each.
Truman will play Cedarville (Ohio) on Saturday at 6 p.m.Â
