Baseball Goes 1-1 In Doubleheader Against SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. - Truman State baseball split Saturday's doubleheader with SBU, winning the first game 6-3 and were defeated 9-8 in the second.

Game One:

Holden Missey had another good game on the mound and at the plate in game one, throwing five innings with six strikeouts and two earned runs. He went 1-4 batting as well.

SBU scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning on a fielding error by Truman. The Bulldogs struck back in the fifth, taking a 2-1 lead when Luke Turner hit a two-RBI double. Southwest Baptist retook the lead in the bottom of that inning with an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly. Truman scored three runs in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead. Dylan Thompson hit an RBI double, Simon Murray hit an RBI single, and Tal Dean reached on a fielding error that scored Grant Beck and Murray.

Tal Dean went 1-4 with two RBIs.

Luke Turner went 1-4 with two RBIs.

Game Two: 

There was plenty of offense in game two, with each team having two players with multiple hits.

Truman scored two in the first when Luke Roussel walked with the bases loaded, and Will Fromm hit a two-RBI single.

SBU scored six unanswered in the second and fourth, and the Bulldogs were able to tie the game at six in the fifth. Tal Dean hit an RBI triple, Luke Turner drove Dean in on a groundout, and Holden Missey hit a homer to left.

SBU's Smock hit a three-run home run in the fifth, making it a 9-6 Bearcats lead.

The Bulldogs tried to rally in the sixth, with Tal Dean scoring Grant Beck on a groundout and Luke Turner bringing Murray in with a sacrifice fly.

Tal Dean added another two hits, going 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

Simon Murray went 2-4 with two runs.

Holden Missey went 1-3 with a home run.

Will Fromm got a hit in four tries, driving in two.

Luke Turner had two RBIs in the game.

Truman plays the final game of the series tomorrow at noon.
