TSU Men Take On UIS In Penultimate Home Game

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State Men's basketball (10-13, 5-10 GLVC) plays Illinois Springfield (14-8, 8-6 GLVC) in Pershing Arena on Thursday, February 9th, at 7:30 p.m.

Against UIS:

The Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield are 14-8 on the season, with six of their eight losses coming in the GLVC. Their two non-conference losses were to Missouri Southern State University and Purdue Northwest. Their GLVC losses have been to Missouri S&T, Wiliam Jewell College (Mo.), Rockhurst, Maryville, UMSL, and McKendree.

UIS averages 75.9 points per game, and give up 67.6. They shoot .448 from the field and .352 from three.

Jack Weber leads UIS in points and rebounds per game. He scores 14.0 points and grabs 6.8 rebounds per game. He also averages 2.8 assists a game. He shoots .605% from the field. 6-foot-6 Weber scored a season-high 26 points against McKendree on 1/28/23

Max Kunnert is their second leading scorer with 10.3 a game. Kunnert averages 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.4 steals per game.

Jordan Rice leads in assists with 3.5 per game. He also averages 8.7 points per game.

Bulldog Tidbits:

Truman State lost a heartbreaker to McKendree, falling 90-88 in overtime.

McKendree jumped out to a 28-18 lead with 8:30 left in the first half, but the Bulldogs managed to fight their way back and trail 41-39 going into the half.

Truman State took their first lead of the game with 12:39 left in the game off a Dylan Peeters made a free throw after he made a layup while fouled. There were seven lead changes the rest of the second half, and the two teams went into overtime tied at 79-79. 

In overtime, Truman went up 85-79 with 3:18 left. McKendree took the lead back off a Caleb Zurliene jumper, up 88-87 with 1:12 remaining in overtime. Hunter Strait hit a free throw with 0:26 left to tie the ballgame. Zurliene hit a fadeaway jumpshot in the paint with 0:02 left in overtime to give McKendree the win over Truman.

Truman shot 14-33 (42.42%) from the field, and 5-13 (38.46%) from three.

Dylan Peeters and Elijah Hazekamp each recorded double-doubles in the game. Peeters had 24 points, 12 rebounds and a steal. Hazekamp put up 20 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists.

Xavier Hall and Hunter Strait had double-digit scoring games as well. Hall scored 19 points and Strait had 11.

Peeters' 24 and Hall's 19 points at McKendree were both career-highs.

McKendree's Caleb Zurliene had a great performance on top of his game-winning shot. He scored 33 points, grabbed 12 boards, and had five blocks.

Truman State is 10-13 on the season and 5-10 in the GLVC.

Elijah Hazekamp still leads the Bulldogs in points per game, averaging 15.3. He also leads in rebounds with 7.5 along with 1.7 assists.

Hunter Strait is second with 12.4 points per game. His stat line is 12.4/3.0/2.9.

Xavier Hall dishes out a team-high 4.0 assists per game. Hall scored 8.6 points per game as well.

Dylan Peeters has been on a tear, scoring 10+ in Trumans last five games. He dropped 24 against McKendree.

Truman's seniors play their last home game on Saturday, February 11, at 3 p.m. against Lewis.
