Donohue Hits Two Home Runs In Split Doubleheader

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State and McKendree split a Sunday doubleheader, with the Bearcats winning the first 10-6 and the Bulldogs taking the second 3-1.

Game One:

Both teams were scoreless in the first before McKendree scored eight runs in the second. The Bulldogs got two back in the bottom of the inning off an Oliver Degenhardt single that drove Grant Beck and Kevin Donohue home.

The Bearcats made it a 10-2 game in the fourth with a two-run home run. Kevin Donohue hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to cut the McKendree lead to seven.

Donohue homered again in the fifth, bringing Tyler Tieman and Dylan Thompson across the plate. No more runs would be scored in the ballgame.

Donohue had a great game at the plate, tallying four RBI off his two home runs. He was also walked and scored three times.

Oliver Degenhardt led the team in hits with three, also driving in two runners.

Dylan Thompson had a double, and Will Fromm and Colin Mueth both had hits.

Game Two:

The Bulldogs and McKendree played a low-scoring but entertaining second game, with both teams having great pitching performances.

The Bulldogs scored three unanswered runs throughout the second, third, and fourth innings. Tyler Tieman hit a solo home run in the second, Oliver Degenhardt brought Colin Mueth home with a sacrifice fly in the third, and Luke Roussel hit a single through the right side that scored Dylan Thompson.

McKendree scored their lone and final run of the game in the fifth.

Dylan Thompson, Dakota Joggerst, Tyler Tieman, Luke Roussel, and Colin Mueth all recorded hits in the game. Tieman, Roussel, and Degenhardt drove runners in.

Nate Bartlett took the win after throwing 4.1 inning with just one earned run. Bartlett struck out six and allowed only one hit.

Justin Maloney, Brian Bruxvoort, and Jaren Guck allowed no runs in their outings. Maloney threw 0.2 innings with one hit and a strikeout, Bruxvoort threw a shutout inning with a hit and a strikeout, and Guck got the save after throwing the seventh with just one hit allowed.

The Bulldogs look to take the series win tomorrow against the Bearcats at noon.
