ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Truman State baseball split a Friday doubleheader against the Lewis Flyers, with Lewis taking game one and the Bulldogs taking the second game 2-1.
Game One:
Lewis jumped out to a huge lead early, going up 9-0 after four innings.
The Bulldogs added three runs in the sixth with a Dylan Thompson solo home run then a Tyler Tieman two-RBI double that scored Luke Turner and Oliver Degenhardt.
The Flyers scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth, and won the contest 13-3.
Dylan Thompson went 3-3 at the plate with a home run, and Luke Turner had two hits in the game a with a run.
Wittenauer, Degenhardt, and Tieman accounted for Truman's other three hits.
Zachry Schneider took the loss, throwing 3.0 innings with three earned runs. Schneider allowed four runs that were unearned.
Evan Still threw 2.0 innings with two earned runs and three strikeouts, Jackson Mitchell allowed four earned runs, and Luke Wilson finished the game with 1.0 innings pitched with no runs and one strikeout.
Game Two:
The second game of the series was a low-scoring affair, with Lewis scoring the first run of the game in the third inning.
Truman matched in the top of the fourth with a Dylan Thompson sacrifice fly, scoring Tal Dean.
Dakota Joggerst hit a clutch home run in the top of the seventh and final inning, taking a 2-1 lead that would be the final score.
Jaren Guck earned his fifth save of the season in the seventh, getting out all three of the batters he faced.
Luke Turner and Dakota Joggerst had both of Truman's hits, with Joggerst's home run winning the game.
Luke Roussel was walked once, Luke Turner stole a base, and Colin Mueth swiped a bag and was hit by a pitch.
Alex Leary threw 5.1 fantastic innings, allowing no earned runs with two hits. He struck out two and walked four.
Justin Maloney took the win with an inning of shutout ball.
Jaren Guck got the save and recorded a strikeout.
The Bulldogs look to even the series in the finale tomorrow at noon.
