KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State baseball defeated GLVC foe McKendree 9-8 to pick up their fourth win of the season.
McKendree's Brody Macak hit a three-run home run in the first to take an early 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Truman responded with a Dylan Thompson double that brought Tal Dean home.
The Bearcats added a fourth run in the top of the third to make it a 4-1 ballgame.
Truman exploded for eight runs in the fourth and sixth innings, with Colin Mueth getting it started in the fourth with an RBI single. Tal Dean hit a three-run home run to give Truman a 5-4 advantage in the fourth as well. Alex Wittenauer hit a solo home run, Dakota Joggerst had a two-RBI single, and Oliver Degenhardt drove Joggerst home in the sixth to make it a five-run game.
McKendree scored two in the seventh and two in the eighth to cut the Truman lead to one.
Jaren Guck pitched the top of the ninth and Truman was able to hang on for the victory.
Luke Turner, Dylan Thompson, Oliver Degenhardt, and Alex Wittenauer all had multi-hit games. Tal Dean, Dakota Joggerst, and Colin Mueth also had hits in the contest. Dean led in RBI with three, followed by Joggerst with two. Thompson, Degenhardt, Wittenauer, and Mueth all drove a runner in.
The Bulldogs are 4-11 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
