Missouri S&T Takes First Game Of Series From Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State baseball took a 5-3 loss in the series opener against Missouri S&T.

The Missouri S&T Miners took an early 2-0 lead in the first after a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly.

No more runs were scored until the top of the fifth when S&T's Kenneth Sugi hit a two-run home run to make it a 3-0 Miners lead.

Tal Dean recorded Truman's first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth with a single to center field.

S&T plated two more in the seventh with a two-run homer to left field.

In the bottom of the seventh, Alex Wittenauer reached on an error which allowed Dakota Joggerst to score, making it a 5-1 game.

Truman scored two more in the eighth with Tal Dean scoring on a fielder's choice and Luke Roussel brought Joggerst across for a second time with an RBI single to left field. The Bulldogs cut the lead to two in the eighth but were unable to score any more in the ninth and final inning.

Dakota Joggerst had a team-high two hits, scoring two runs as well.

Tal Dean had a hit, a run, and two walks, Dylan Thompson had a hit, Luke Roussel went 1-4 with an RBI and a walk, and Oliver Degenhardt drove in a run.

Isaac Epp took the loss after throwing 6.0 innings with four earned runs. Epp struck out two batters and walked six.

Kyle Stratman and Jaren Guck both had scoreless outings, with Stratman throwing 1.2 innings with a strikeout and Guck threw an inning with one strikeout.

The Bulldogs play a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 and 4 p.m.
