Bulldogs Score 20 Runs In Win Against William Jewell

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State baseball defeated William Jewell 20-16, scoring the third most runs in a game in school history.

Neither team scored a run until the bottom of the third, where Tal Dean recorded his first RBI of the game with a solo home run to right field.

Truman would scored four more in the fourth off a Colin Mueth two-RBI double and a Luke Turner single that scored Mueth.

William Jewell would score two of their own in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Truman tacked on seven more to make it a 12-2 game. Will Fromm and Colin Mueth both had RBI singles, Tal Dean walked with the bases loaded, Mueth and Alex Wittenauer would cross home off a throwing error, and Turner scored on a fielder's choice.

The William Jewell Cardinals scored eight in the top of the sixth to cut the Truman lead to two.

The Bulldogs had another high-scoring inning in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six more. Tal Dean had a two-RBI single, Dylan Thompson hit a three-run homer to left, and Dakota Joggerst hit a home run of his own in the following at-bat.

The Cardinals answered with three more in the top of the eighth before Truman's Kevin Donohue hit a two-run single to give the Bulldogs their 20th run of the ballgame.

William Jewell scored three in the top of the ninth, but Truman was able to hold on for the win.

Dylan Thompson, Dakota Joggerst, and Oliver Degenhardt all had three hits in the game. Thompson had three RBI and a run, Joggerst drove on two with three runs and a walk, and Degenhardt had an RBI with three runs.

Luke Turner, Colin Mueth, Devin Donohue, Will Fromm, and Tal Dean had two hits each. Luke Turner and Tal Dean led the team in RBI with four, Turner scored once and Dean reached home three times. Mueth had three RBI and three runs, Donohue had two RBI, and Fromm had an RBI with a a run scored.

Luke Roussel and Alex Wittenauer had one hit apiece and both scored twice.

Isaac Epp took the win after throwing 5.0 innings with two strikeouts, four walks, two hits allowed, and two earned runs.

Kyle Stratman threw a scoreless inning, allowing one hit in the three batters he faced.

The Bulldogs and Cardinals play a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 and 4 p.m.
