KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State baseball suffered two losses against William Jewell on Saturday, falling 17-9 and 11-9.
Game One:
The Bulldogs had a great start to the game, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. Dylan Thompson got it started with an RBI single in the first. In the second, Colin Mueth scored on a Dylan Thompson flyout, Oliver Degenhardt had a bases-clearing triple, and Tyler Tieman had a two-run bomb to left field.
William Jewell score nine unanswered in the third and fourth innings to go up 9-7.
RBI singles from Dakota Joggerst and Degenhardt in the fifth evened the score at 9-9.
The Cardinals had explosive sixth and seventh innings, scoring eight and winning the ballgame 17-9.
Oliver Degenhardt led the team in hits and RBI, with three and four. He was also walked once and scored once.
Dylan Thompson and Tyler Tieman both had one hit, one run, one walk, and two-RBI games.
Dakota Joggerst went 1-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Colin Mueth had the second most hits for Truman with two, scoring once and swiping two bags as well.
Tal Dean had a hit, two runs, and walks.
Deven Donohue had a hit which was a double.
Game Two:
The second game was back and forth, with William Jewel scoring in the top of the first before Oliver Degenhardt hit an RBI single to center to tie it up.
The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead in the second, but the Bulldogs scored five in the bottom half of the inning to go up 6-2. Dakota Joggerst hit an RBI single then scored on a wild throw from the catcher after stealing second, Alex Wittenauer then hit a three-run homer. Wittenauer's home run was the first of his Truman career.
William Jewell cut the Truman lead to one in the fourth. Truman took a four-run lead win the bottom of the frame to take a 9-5 advantage. Colin Mueth scored on a Luke Turner groundout, Dylan Thompson hit an RBI single, and Thompson scored on an Oliver Degenhardt groundout.
The Cardinals scored two in the sixth to make it a 9-7 game going into the final inning.
Down two, William Jewell hit a grand slam to go up 11-9, and the Cardinals would win the game.
Alex Wittenauer led the Bulldogs in RBI with three, followed by Oliver Degenhardt with two.
Dylan Thompson, Dakota Joggerst, and Luke Turner each had one RBI. Thompson went 2-3 with a run, Joggerst went 2-4 with a run and a stolen base, and Turner went 1-4 with two runs.
Tal Dean had a 2-3 game with two runs and a walk.
Colin Mueth went 1-3 with a run and another two steals.
Jordan Marlott threw 5.0 innings with five strikeouts, three walks, five earned runs, and six hits.
The Bulldogs will honor the Truman seniors playing their final home game tomorrow at noon.
