KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Truman State baseball and Rockhurst University played a Saturday doubleheader where the Hawks of Rockhurst took both games.
Game One:
The Hawks got off to a fast start, scoring 12 runs in the first four innings.
In the seventh and final inning, Truman State scored four runs to make it a 12-4 game. Luke Turner had a two-RBI single that scored Colin Mueth and Luke Roussel, Alex Wittenauer brought Tal Dean in with a single to center, and Dakota Joggerst had an RBI single of his own that plated Turner. Rockhurst would hold on for the win.
Tal Dean, Luke Turner, Alex Wittenauer, Dakota Joggerst, and Colin Muth all had hits in the game. Turner led the game in RBI with two and was walked once.
Jackson Mitchell threw a shutout sixth inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
Game Two:
Rockhurst scored the first run of the low-scoring game in the bottom of the first, then two more in the fifth to win 3-0.
Luke Turner, Dakota Joggerst, and Luke Roussel each recorded a hit in the ballgame. Roussel hit a triple in the top of the seventh and Joggerst was hit by a pitch.
Dylan Thompson and Tyler Tieman were both walked twice.
Alex Leary had a solid outing on the mound, but took the loss. He threw 5.0 innings with two earned runs, seven strikeouts, three walks, and six hits.
Kyle Stratman threw a shutout sixth inning, allowing one hit.
The Bulldogs and Hawks play the final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
