INDIANAPOLIS – Stacked with 15 seniors and juniors, the Truman State Women's Soccer team is poised to return to postseason play following the release of the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason coaches' poll.
The Bulldogs were slotted ninth in the survey with Maryville earning 13 of the 15 possible first-place votes to be the favorite to defend their regular season championship from last year.
Truman pushed for a top-eight spot last year but came up short finishing with a 3-6-3 conference mark and 4-8-5 overall record.
Head Coach
Mike Cannon enters his 32
nd season on the sidelines for the Bulldogs and has won 374 matches with a 68% winning percentage during that span.
Among the eight seniors on the roster, goalkeeper
Tatumn Damron shut out seven of 17 opponents a year ago and made 101 saves with a 1.00 goals-against mark.
Senior
Emma Thompson returns as the squad's leading scorer from 23 with three goals and three assists for nine points. Senior
Olivia Morris was second with two goals and three helpers for seven points.
The Bulldogs first four matches will be played at home in Stokes Stadium starting with Davenport (Mich.) on Friday, September 6
th at 2:30 p.m. Following the opener, the team will host Saginaw Valley (Mich.) on Sunday, September 8
th, Missouri Southern on Thursday, September 12
th, and start conference action against Indianapolis on Sunday, September 15
th.
