Lawrence Goes For 31 On Nine Triples As Bulldogs Rally For Win

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Casen Lawrence continued his assault on three-pointers made in the month of February as he knocked down nine and scored a career-high 31 points in Truman State's 92-78 victory over Maryville (Mo.) on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs were sluggish most of the night and trailed the first chunk of the game. The Saints shot over 60% in the first half and went up by 11 points at 55-44 early in the second half.

The switch was flipped and the Bulldogs went on a 12-0 followed by an 11-0 run to take control of the game.

High school teammates Lawrence and Kobi Williams combined for 50 points on the night with  Williams adding 19 with nine rebounds and five assists.

Lawrence's nine triples ties four other previous Bulldogs for second-most in a game and one off the record of 10 set by Isaac Gardner in 2012. The nine are the most by a Bulldog since Andrew Vander Zwaag against Illinois Springfield in 2016. Lawrence had eight in the last home game against Southwest Baptist.

Lucas Burton paced the Saints with 28 points as Maryville dominated the paint early on by a 32-12 advantage. The Bulldogs fought back and were only outscored by 12 in that area at the end of the game.

Truman will have an important date with Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday in Pershing Arena. The Tritons and Bulldogs were both teams listed in the first NCAA Midwest regional ranking this week. Tip-off between the long-time rivals will be around 3:15 p.m.
