KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Jordan Jermain scored 26 points, and William Jewell defeated the Truman State Bulldogs 83-70 in the regular season finale on Saturday in Pershing Arena.
Kobi Williams led Truman State with a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals (12-16, 9-11 GLVC) outscored the Bulldogs 44-26 in the second half to pull away. William Jewell trailed 26-20 late in the first half before a 19-6 run, sparked by Jermain's 3-pointer and Jason Thirdkill Jr.'s dunk, gave them a 39-26 halftime lead.
Truman State (17-11, 11-9 GLVC) fought back in the second half, cutting the deficit to 62-57 with 7:15 remaining on a pair of free throws by
Xavier Hall. However, William Jewell responded with a 17-3 run, capped by Jermain's fourth 3-pointer of the night, to stretch the lead to 79-63 with 3:08 left.
For Truman State,
Trey Shearer finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, and
Xavier Hall added five points and six assists. The Bulldogs shot 51.9% from the field (28 of 54) but struggled with 13 turnovers, which William Jewell converted into 13 points.
Truman State will await its seeding for the GLVC postseason tournament, with opening-round play expected to begin Thursday.
