Game Recap: Baseball |

Runs in short supply; Bulldog Baseball swept in doubleheader at UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS – A Saturday doubleheader sweep extended a winless streak to six for Truman State Baseball.

Held to just two hits in a Game 1 7-0 win for UIndy, the Bulldogs rebounded with six hits in Game 2 but fell, 5-1.

Isaac Epp took the Game 1 loss, now 1-5 on the campaign, tossing 5.2 innings giving up six runs on eight hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. UIndy led off the second with a double that scored on the second two bagger of the inning. The second run of the frame scored on a two-out single for all the runs UIndy would need. Rawlins Brant and Oliver Degenhardt were the only Bulldogs to record hits in the loss.

An untimely first inning error and passed ball in the second plated three unearned runs to put the 'Dogs behind 3-0 after two. Starter Nick Phillips allowed only two earned runs in the five surrendered with two doubles in the third putting Game 2 out of reach. Dakota Joggerst went 2-3 at the plate with Charlie Berry scoring Ian Thornton with a fifth inning double. The bullpen got the second game off after only working one out in Game 1 after Phillips went all six in the nightcap.

Truman State, 8-26, will look to avoid the series sweep and its third seven-game losing streak of the season with a win over UIndy, 19-15, at 12 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
