Truman Women's Tennis Earns Sportsmanship Award

INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced Thursday that Rockhurst University sophomore Ella Coleman has been named the GLVC Player of the Year and Lewis University's Jordane Dookie, GLVC Freshman of the Year in the sport of women's tennis. The Coach of the Year will be awarded to the coach of the GLVC Tournament's winning team.
 
In all, a total of 17 student-athletes – nine from the East and eight from the West Divisions – were recognized as All-Conference honorees, while 12 were named GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees and Truman State University was honored with the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award. Major award winners and All-GLVC teams are voted on by the league's head coaches.

Player of the Year: Ella Coleman, Sophomore, Rockhurst
  • Repeats as Player of the Year after winning the honor, as well as Freshman of the Year in 2024
    • Rockhurst's third Player of the Year
  • Went 14-4 overall and 3-1 in GLVC action at No. 1 singles.
  • Partnered with Zuzanna Szmyd and Dani Lentisco at majority No. 1 doubles, going 14-4 overall and 3-2 against GLVC foes.
  • Holds highest ranking in GLVC for ITA Division II singles at No. 23.
    • Ranked 35th in Division II in doubles partnered with Szmyd
  • Helped Hawks go 14-6 overall and 4-0 in GLVC action to claim the top seed in the West Division for GLVC Tournament.
  • Named GLVC Player of the Week on February 19, March 5, and April 16.
  • Earns spot on All-GLVC First Team for the second year in a row
 
Freshman of the Year: Jordane Dookie, Lewis
  • Earns Lewis's third Freshman of the Year award
    • First 2011 when Zsofia Kranczicki took home the honors
  • Went 9-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play as the No. 1 singles
  • Partnered with Sofia Vdovychenko as No.1 doubles to go 11-6 and 3-2 in conference action
  • Earns spot on All-GLVC First Team

Coach of the Year: Winner of the Tournament
  • The Coach of the Year award will be presented to the coach of the team that wins the GLVC Tournament.
     
University of Indianapolis and Rockhurst University headline the 16-member All-GLVC squad with four nods apiece, whilst Drury University follows with two. University of Illinois Springfield, Lewis University, Maryville University, McKendree University, University of Missouri-St. Louis, Quincy University, and Southwest Baptist University all had one.
 
The selections include nine players each from the East Division and eight players from the West Division. Joining Coleman was teammates Daniella Lentisco, Zuzanna Szmyd and Sophia Valdespino, while Indianapolis (Sofia Cardenas, Jimena De Pablos Hernando, Tyffaine Pais, Suryanshi) earned a league-high four spots on the team. Also tabbed was a pair from Drury (Leana Chanove, Ewa Samberger) and individuals from Illinois Springfield (Carmen Lopis), Lewis (Jordane Dookie), Maryville (Isabella Alvarez), McKendree (Sofija Dunisijevic), Missouri-St. Louis (Hannah Tse), Quincy (Mahi Panchal), and Southwest Baptist (Paula Ballesteros)
 
The league also recognized Truman State as its GLVC Women's Tennis James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award team recipient, as well as 12 student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced in May.
