KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman State Athletics has announced the promotion of Jon Gooch to head coach of the Bulldog women's tennis program.
A familiar face within the program, Gooch has served as an assistant coach since 2019 and is also a former Bulldog men's tennis student-athlete and alumnus. His connection to Truman State spans more than a decade, giving him a unique perspective on the department's commitment to athletic, academic, and personal development.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to work with this program and these student-athletes," Gooch said. "The impact this program had on myself as an athlete and a person shaped what I've accomplished in my life, and I want to pass down those character-defining experiences and moments for the next chapter in Truman State tennis."
During his time as an assistant coach, Gooch played an important role in coaching, recruiting, player development, and the day-to-day operations of the program. His work helped support the growth of Bulldog women's tennis while fostering a culture centered on improvement, accountability, and pride in representing Truman State.
"Throughout the past several years, Coach Jon Gooch has demonstrated a strong commitment to the growth and overall success of our women's tennis student-athletes and program," said Director of Athletics Signe Coombs. "Since joining our staff in 2019, he has played an integral role in cultivating a team culture built on character, development, and pride in representing Truman State University. As a proud alumnus and former student-athlete, Coach Gooch understands the transformative impact of the Bulldog student-athlete experience. His deep connection to our institution, coupled with his dedication to developing student-athletes on and off the court, make him an ideal fit to lead our women's tennis program."
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Gooch has spent more than two decades teaching the game through private and group instruction, helping players of all ages develop their skills and understanding of tennis. His extensive background in player development has made him a respected figure in the Kirksville tennis community.
A graduate of Truman State University with a bachelor's degree in exercise science, Gooch brings both Bulldog pride and a passion for mentoring student-athletes into his new role.
As head coach, Gooch will lead a program built on a tradition of academic success and competitive excellence, while continuing to emphasize the personal growth and character development that define the Truman State student-athlete experience.
