KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State Football earned its second victory over Indianapolis in program history with a 29-27 road win Saturday night, while Volleyball defeated No. 21 UIndy in five sets Friday during Student and Community Appreciation Day. Women's Soccer earned a road shutout at William Jewell before falling to nationally-ranked McKendree. Men's Soccer lost at William Jewell and finished the week with a draw at McKendree.

Football Earns Historic Road Victory at Indianapolis

Truman scored touchdowns on its first three possessions of the second half and controlled the final eight minutes to defeat Indianapolis 29-27 Saturday night. The victory was Truman's second over UIndy in program history and its first since 2016.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The game began as a defensive battle. Truman drove 94 yards on 12 plays during the first quarter, taking a 7-0 lead when Dylan Hair found linebacker Alijah Jackman for a one-yard touchdown. UIndy's only points of the first half came on a 41-yard field goal with 3:48 remaining, sending the Bulldogs into halftime with a 7-3 advantage.

The pace changed immediately after halftime. UIndy drove 81 yards to take its first lead on a 12-yard touchdown pass, but Truman answered with an 85-yard drive capped by Madden Irving's 14-yard touchdown run. The Greyhounds added a field goal on the final play of the third quarter to cut Truman's lead to 14-13.

Truman opened the fourth quarter by completing a 71-yard touchdown drive. A 61-yard completion from Hair to Cori Robertson moved the Bulldogs to the UIndy two-yard line, and Irving scored from one yard out. Hair connected with Mikell Burden on the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 22-13.

UIndy responded in only four plays, scoring on a seven-yard run to pull within 22-20. On Truman's next snap, Irving turned a screen pass into a 75-yard touchdown, restoring the Bulldogs' nine-point advantage just 15 seconds later.

The Greyhounds answered again with a 65-yard touchdown drive, cutting the margin to 29-27 with 8:10 remaining. UIndy never received another possession.

Truman took over at its own 28-yard line and ran 14 consecutive rushing plays to exhaust the remaining 8:03. The Bulldogs converted third-and-one and fourth-and-one during the drive before Irving broke a 20-yard run into UIndy territory. Another Irving first down allowed Hair to take three kneel-downs and close the victory.

Irving finished with 158 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. He added the 75-yard touchdown and totaled 233 all-purpose yards. Hair completed 10 of 19 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 26 yards.

Truman finished with 428 yards of offense, including 201 on the ground. The Bulldogs held UIndy to 37 rushing yards and recorded five sacks and 12 tackles for loss. Bryant Pool led the defense with nine tackles. Tucker McDowell recorded 2.5 sacks, and Alex Medina made three tackles for loss.

Volleyball Defeats No. 21 UIndy in Five Sets

Truman earned its first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent during head coach David Gannon's tenure by defeating No. 21 Indianapolis 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 23-25, 15-13 Friday night inside Pershing Arena.

A Student and Community Appreciation Day crowd of 325 watched the Bulldogs take the first two sets before UIndy forced a decisive fifth.

Truman hit .250 in the opening set and closed it with a 25-19 win. The Bulldogs were even more efficient in the second, recording 17 kills with four errors and hitting .333 in a 25-15 victory.

UIndy answered by winning the third set 25-22 and surviving a fourth set that included a plethora of ties and lead changes. The Greyhounds took the fourth 25-23 to erase Truman's 2-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs built an 8-4 lead in the fifth set before UIndy scored four consecutive points to tie it. The Greyhounds later took an 11-10 advantage, but Truman responded and moved ahead 13-11. UIndy tied the set again at 13 before Jessie Julius delivered a kill to create match point. Autumn Erickson followed with the winning kill to complete the upset.

Laci Neece led Truman with 22 kills. Julius recorded 18 kills with only one error, hit .370 and added 17 digs. Erickson finished with 17 kills, a .333 hitting percentage and three service aces. Addy Janssen collected 35 digs.

Tori Creason distributed a career-high 69 assists and surpassed 2,000 career assists during the third set. Truman finished with 77 kills, 92 digs and a .263 hitting percentage.

Lewis Sweeps Bulldogs

Lewis defeated Truman 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 Saturday afternoon inside Pershing Arena.

Neece led the Bulldogs with 12 kills, while Erickson recorded 10 kills and hit .318. Creason added 29 assists and moved into the top 10 in Truman history for career assists. She ended the weekend with 2,067 career assists.

Lewis hit .266 and recorded eight service aces while holding Truman to a .122 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs finished the week 6-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Women's Soccer Splits GLVC Road Matches

Truman 1, William Jewell 0

Tessa Paradis scored in the third minute, and Mikayla Thomas recorded a five-save shutout as Truman defeated William Jewell 1-0 Wednesday in Liberty, Missouri.

Aubrey Kaupas assisted Paradis' first goal of the season at the 2:23 mark. Truman controlled the match statistically, finishing with a 26-7 advantage in shots, a 13-5 edge in shots on goal and nine corner kicks.

Quinn Nauman placed six of her seven shots on goal, while William Jewell goalkeeper Jenna Skeeters made 12 saves. Thomas stopped all five shots she faced to preserve the victory.

No. 24 McKendree 4, Truman 1

Truman answered an early McKendree goal but conceded three times during the second half of a 4-1 loss Saturday in Lebanon, Illinois.

McKendree scored at 10:47 before Julia Behounek tied the match 74 seconds later with her first goal of the season. The match remained tied through halftime, but the Bearcats scored in the 50th, 58th and 64th minutes.

Thomas made five saves for Truman. The Bulldogs ended the week 4-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the GLVC.

Men's Soccer Earns Draw at McKendree

William Jewell 4, Truman 1

William Jewell scored three times during the opening 17 minutes and defeated Truman 4-1 Wednesday night in Liberty.

The Cardinals added their fourth goal in the 70th minute before Cody Bland put Truman on the scoreboard at 88:51. Jacob Panagos assisted Bland's first goal of the season.

Truman finished with a 16-10 advantage in shots, placed eight attempts on goal and earned 10 corner kicks. William Jewell goalkeeper Aidan Smith made seven saves.

Truman 1, McKendree 1

Panagos scored his ninth goal of the season as the Bulldogs earned a 1-1 draw at McKendree on Saturday.

McKendree broke the scoreless tie at 52:24. Panagos answered with a penalty kick just over four minutes later to tie the match. Owen Robben made three saves as the Bulldogs protected the draw.

Truman completed the week with a 3-3-3 overall record and a 2-2-3 conference mark.

Coming Up for the Bulldogs

Women's and Men's Soccer return home Wednesday, Sept. 30, to face Southwest Baptist.
