(KIRKSVILLE, Mo.) – The 10th-ranked Truman volleyball team held visiting Missouri Western to an .095 hitting percentage and got 12 kills apiece from senior Allison Barker and sophomore Megan Sharpe on the way to a 3-1 (-22, -18, 19-25, -20) win on Saturday night.
Barker hit .423 and dug 20 Griffon attacks, while also adding a block assist, as Truman moved to 19-3 overall and 8-2 through the first half of the MIAA season. In addition, Sharpe's 12 kills were supplemented by four total blocks (three solo) and a .304 attack percentage.
The Bulldogs fell behind in each of the four sets at the start but rebounded in the three victorious sets with runs midway through. And although the purple and white committed 13 service errors, the 'Dog defense blocked six attacks and forced MWSU (9-10, 5-5 MIAA) into 29 attack errors of their own.
Junior Molly Sinclair added seven kills in just two sets, while fellow junior Kylie Easlon took home top setting honors on the night with 23.
Stephanie Hattey recorded a triple-double (10 kills, 13 assists, 14 digs) for the Griffons, while Tahler Johnston added ten kills of her own.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the first trip around the conference schedule with Saturday's win and will start the second half of round-robin play by hosting No. 15 Emporia State on Wednesday night in Pershing Arena. Wednesday is Truman's annual “Dig Pink for the Cure” night, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink. Donations for breast cancer awareness and research will be collected throughout the night.
