Tennis Cruises To Dual Wins Over Quincy

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Tennis teams defeated Quincy University in dual matches on Tuesday at home.  The men were 7-2 winners and will face Missouri Baptist on Wednesday while the women won 9-0 and will finish their fall season this weekend at Western Illinois Tournament.

The men lost number one doubles by an 8-4 score but won the other two matches 8-5 and 8-6 to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Eric McCollough, Colin Boswell, Adam King, Mike Merchant and Joe Murphy-Baum were all straight-set winners for the Bulldogs while Kirk Schlueter fell in three sets at number four singles.  The men improve to 3-0 with the final dual match against Missouri Baptist at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The women had little trouble with the Hawks as they cruised to a 9-0 victory.  Amy Ochs and Ellen Russell won 8-5 in number one doubles, Kelsey Kuykendall and Dagmar Velez won 8-4 in number two and Maggi Schutte and Jessica Gennuso won 8-4 at number three.

Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight-sets while Schutte needed a third set tie break to claim the number two singles match.

The women will conclude their fall season this weekend at the Western Illinois University tournament.
