Truman Swimming Hosts Missouri State Friday

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Bulldog Men's & Women's swimming teams faced off against Division I Missouri State University on Friday afternoon.  The men fell 94-28 while the women were defeated 82-40.

The women's 200 medley relay team fell by just over a second but turned in a season best time of 1:48.96.  On the squad were sophomore Stacey Wymer (New Lenox, Ill., Lincoln-Way Central), junior Jessica Jenkot (Orland Park, Ill., Carl Sandburg), freshman Beth Eyanson and senior Tanya Sylvester (Rochester, Minn., Century).

Sophomore Jerod Simek (O'Fallon, Mo., Fort Zumwalt West) brought home the only men's event win during the meet with a 9:54.21 swim in the 1000 yard free.  Simek pulled away and won by nearly 10 seconds over Aaron Henry of Missouri State while freshman Sam Collier turned in a season best time of 10:07.87.

Freshman Casey Jepsen grabbed the first event win for the women with a time of 1:55.18 in the 200 Free.  She was followed closely in third place by Sylvester (1:58.56) and senior Stephanie Myers (Lubbock, Texas, Lubbock) (1:58.69).

SeniorAnna Grinter (Manhattan, Kan., Manhattan)won the 200 Fly with a season best time of 2:07.18 and Eyanson won the 100 Fly with a time of 59.31.

Also on the women's side, Missouri State's Amber Green broke the Truman Natatorium record in the 50 Free with a time of 23.38.

The Bulldog men also turned in season best times in the 200 Fly by junior Zac Litzau (Ballwin, Mo., Marquette) (2:01.66) and freshman Eric Mikolajczyk (2:03.48), the 50 Free by freshman Seth Holbrook (22.63) and freshman Alex Felton (22.72) and the 200 IM by sophomore Matthew Fletcher (Byron, Ill, Byron)(1:59.98), Simek (2:02.23) and sophomore Greg Taplin (Highland, Ill., Edwardsville Senior) (2:03.67).

The Bulldogs will next compete on Nov. 19-20 at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill.
