QUINCY, Ill. - - The Truman men's basketball team had four players in double-figures, but a second half rally by host Quincy (Ill.) University propelled the Hawks to a 76-71 win against the Bulldogs on Saturday night in Pepsi Arena.

The Bulldogs (2-2) held Quincy (3-1) to just 9-of-29 shooting in the first half to build a 38-29 lead. Senior guard Alex Henderson (Willard, Mo., Willard) came out blistering in the opening 20 minutes, scoring 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting with a pair of three-pointers, as Truman buried six long-range shots as a unit to help balance QU's nine extra free throw opportunities.

Truman then built the lead to its largest margin of the night – 16 points – at 56-40 with 7:49 to play, as the Bulldogs capitalized on a four-point possession with a pair of technical foul free throws by sophomore guard Tom Norton (Bloomington, Ill., Bloomington Catholic) and a Henderson layup. But, from there, the Hawks began to chip away, rattling off a 23-7 run to eventually tie the score at 63 apiece with 2:43 to play. The Hawks took a 65-63 lead before two more Norton free throws tied the game at 65-each at the 1:04 mark.

The game turned into a free throw contest in the final 30 seconds after QU led, 67-65, and the Hawks made the most of it by hitting nine of their final 10 charity stripe chances to pick up the 76-71 final.

The Bulldogs shot 41% from the field for the game and held QU to a 33% mark, but the Hawks were awarded 20 more free throw attempts, hitting 30-of-37 while Truman was sent to the line 17 times, converting 15.

Henderson met his season average, leading the 'Dogs with 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting, three 3-pointers and a pair of free throws while adding seven rebounds. Senior forward Ethan Freeman (Urbandale, Iowa, Urbandale) added ten points and tied a career-high with 17 rebounds. He also led the purple and white with five assists on the night.

Norton finished right behind Henderson with 17 points, and junior center Vesko Filchev (Plovdiv, Bulgaria, GPCHE) scored 11 points in 19 minutes. The Bulldogs did turn the ball over 24 times but out-rebounded the Hawks by one, 40-39.

Josh Edmonds led the Hawks with 28 points, and Tyler Thompson added 16.

Truman wrapped up its nonconference play for the 2010-2011 season with Saturday night's loss and will open MIAA action on Wednesday night by hosting Missouri Southern at 7:30 p.m. in Pershing Arena.
