Newcomers Bring Experience and Production to Truman Men’s Basketball

The Truman State men's basketball roster will have a different look in 2026-27 as the Bulldogs welcome 11 newcomers to a group featuring four returning players.

Truman finished last season 12-16 overall and 9-11 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Bulldogs averaged 77.0 points per game and shot 46.2 percent from the field as they gained experience that will help shape the program entering the new season. The incoming class gives Truman additional scoring, rebounding and ball-handling experience as the Bulldogs look to build around returners Quientan McCafferty, Mason Carroll, Marquis Carver-Smith and Darin Donalds.

"This roster was exciting to build and is full of high-character, low-ego guys who are serious about basketball along with high academic achievement," Head Coach Mike Worley said. "We were able to identify experienced guards and wings in the transfer portal who were excited about the academic reputation of Truman and the competitiveness of the GLVC."

Several of the newcomers arrive with significant collegiate experience, led by Eastern Oklahoma State College transfer Roy Henderson III. The 6-foot-1 guard started all 31 games last season and averaged 18.0 points and 4.1 assists per game. Henderson made 90 three-pointers at a 35.9 percent rate and earned first-team All-NJCAA Region 2 honors.

Pete Moe also earned all-region recognition at the junior college level. The 6-foot-9 forward was named to the All-NJCAA Region 2 second team after leading the region with 636 points at National Park College. Moe also led the Nighthawks with 88 assists, 135 defensive rebounds and 217 total rebounds. He previously played at Barry University and NCAA Division I Marshall.

Jakob Blakley joins the Bulldogs after two seasons at NCAA Division I Le Moyne. Blakley appeared in 32 games with 28 starts last season, averaging 4.2 points per game while shooting 31.4 percent from three-point range and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Truman added four other players with Division I experience.

Cooper Bean spent three seasons at Indiana State and appeared in 17 games during the 2025-26 season. Micah Caster played in 49 games across two seasons at Louisiana-Monroe and shot 34.9 percent from three-point range.

Kyle Edison comes to Truman after two seasons at Southeastern Louisiana. He began his collegiate career at Three Rivers College, where he averaged 10.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game while making 23 starts.

Antwan Robinson redshirted last season at Arkansas-Fort Smith after playing two years at Cal State Fullerton. Robinson appeared in 30 games with 19 starts for the Titans and averaged 6.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Eli Gaeth adds another experienced option in the backcourt. He redshirted last season at Iowa Western Community College after beginning his career at Concordia University Nebraska. Gaeth averaged 5.4 points, 2.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game during his freshman season at Concordia and twice connected on game-winning baskets at the buzzer.

The Bulldogs also added three first-year players in William Mpata, Ethan Taylor and Chance Lorenz.

Mpata averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last season at DME Academy. The Brussels, Belgium, native also won two international championships while representing his country at the under-16 level.

Taylor arrives after spending last season at Link Academy. He previously averaged 17.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game at SLAM Miami. Taylor also represented the Turks and Caicos Islands in international competition, averaging 16.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists across four pool-play games.

Lorenz was a three-year varsity player at Harrison High School in Arkansas. He earned all-conference honors and team MVP recognition as a senior after helping Harrison win a conference championship. Lorenz finished his varsity career with 750 points and 300 assists.

The newcomers will join a returning group led by McCafferty and Carver-Smith.

McCafferty appeared in 24 games with 11 starts last season, averaging 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 53.0 percent from the field. His 19 blocked shots ranked second on the team.

Carver-Smith played in 22 games with six starts and averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Carroll and Donalds also return after making limited appearances during their first seasons with the Bulldogs.

As Truman prepares for the 2026-27 season, the Bulldogs will blend the familiarity of their returning players with a newcomer class that has competed across several levels of college and international basketball. The group's combination of experience, production and versatility gives Truman several options as it prepares for another season of GLVC competition.
